Jan Vertonghen has been a key player for Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino in recent seasons.

Harry Redknapp is adamant that Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen ‘can play anywhere’ and claimed that he is an ‘underrated’ figure.
The 31-year-old, who is a natural centre-back, was utilised in a left wing-back role for his side during their 3-0 first-leg Champions League knockout win against Borussia Dortmund last Wednesday.
Vertonghen didn’t disappoint in that role as he kept highly-rated England international Jadon Sancho quiet as well as scoring and assisting for his side.
Former Premier League manager Redknapp explained why he thinks the Belgium international can play any role on the park if he wanted to.
“He looks like he can play anywhere,” Redknapp told the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show on talkSPORT on 14/02/2019. “He is so comfortable on the ball. He is strong, powerful & his crossing is superb. I think he has been an underrated player.
“Great signing for Tottenham since he arrived. I think he has the ability to sit in the middle and play a holding role if he wanted to. He never gives the ball away.”

Vertonghen is naturally left-footed, but he also has great technical ability and composure when he is bringing the ball out from the back.
As Mauricio Pochettino has constantly showcased during his time at the club, Vertonghen can seamlessly operate in a flat back four and then transition to a back three/five and still produce the goods for his team.
Over the course of the season, the Belgian has played 20 matches in all competitions for his side – the lack of games is due to a hamstring injury he suffered earlier on in the campaign, according to transfermarkt.
Following their mini-break, Tottenham will return to Premier League action this Saturday when they take on Sean Dyche’s Burnley as they look to close the five-point gap on the top two.
