Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney began his career with Everton, before moving to Old Trafford.

Harry Redknapp has told The Sun that Everton should sign Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

Rooney began his career at Everton, and his been linked with a move back to Goodison Park recently.

The England international has not been a permanent starter for United this season, and he broke the Red Devils’ all time scoring record last weekend, by curling in a free kick against Stoke City.

There appears to be little left for Rooney to achieve with United, meaning a return to Everton could be appealing.

And Redknapp feels that signing Rooney could be the difference maker, as Everton chase a top four spot.

“Maybe it is time for him to have one more challenge – go somewhere where is wanted and going to be a big player,” Redknapp said.

“He could go back to his own club Everton. He is an Everton fan. Go back there, finish your career there and take Everton into the Champions League positions.

“He could go there and turn them into a top four club. He could make the difference.”

The Toffees are keen to break into the group challenging for the Champions League places, after the investment of Farhad Moshiri.

Everton are currently in seventh place in the top flight, but they have shown signs of big improvements in recent weeks.

Everton have already done business with United this month, as they have snapped up Morgan Schneiderlin from the Old Trafford club.
