Harry Redknapp is certainly impressed with Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe.
Harry Redknapp has told the BBC that Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is ‘fantastic’ after a remarkable season at Dean Court.
Redknapp, currently out of work since leaving QPR in February, had two spells as a player with Bournemouth, before becoming their manager from 1983 to 1992.
A spell with West Ham followed, but he enjoyed plenty of success at Portsmouth – where he signed and managed defender Howe.
One of the youngest managers in English football, Howe has earned plenty of plaudits for his work as Bournemouth boss, with the Cherries currently in second place in the Championship – just two games away from promotion to the Premier League.
That’s an amazing achievement for a club who were in League Two under Howe not too long ago, and the record this season shows just what a superb job Howe has done.
Bournemouth have scored the most goals in the Championship with 92, whilst they have also lost the fewest games in the division with just eight over the course of the season.
Promotion would surely make Howe stay on the South Coast, but recent reports from the Daily Mirror suggested that West Ham are looking at Howe as a possible replacement for Sam Allardyce this summer.
Howe is close to former Hammers boss Redknapp, and he told the BBC that Howe is ‘fantastic’ – and he would buy a season ticket to watch his teams.
“I produced teams that play good football,” Redknapp said. “I had 10 years at Bournemouth, I was the most successful manager in their 100-year history. Eddie Howe has come along and blown me out the water. He is fantastic – I love watching them play. If I wasn’t involved next year, I’d buy a couple of season tickets and watch them every week.”
That’s high praise from Redknapp, but it could be hard for West Ham to prise him away from Bournemouth if they do win promotion to the Premier League next month.
