Mykhailo Mudryk produced his best moment in Chelsea colours on Tuesday night when his side booked their League Cup semi-final ticket.
It was the 22-year-old’s goal in stoppage time that took the all-Premier League affair against Newcastle United beyond 90 minutes, before Mauricio Pochettino’s men won on penalties.
Rather than Mykhailo Mudryk getting praise for his efforts, he seems to be getting pelters left, right and centre, including from Harry Redknapp in the build-up to Liverpool v West Ham United on Wednesday night.
The former Premier League boss was analysing Chelsea’s win and he claimed that it was Mykhailo Mudryk’s poor positional play that resulted in him benefiting from Kieran Trippier’s mistake, as he told Sky Sports Football (20/12/23 at 7:20 pm).
Harry Redknapp added that Mykhailo Mudryk ‘doesn’t know the game’ and he is someone who ‘definitely needs working on’.
Nobody is going to argue that the Ukraine star has a lot of areas to improve on, but surely he should get some praise for his efforts?!
This could prove to be a big moment for the player in his Chelsea career and the club itself because it has been 18 months of pure decline.
Mykhailo Mudryk criticised
“Chelsea broke them down in the end because the left winger was in a position he shouldn’t have been in,” said Redknapp.
“He done it from the cross before. He was stood out wide when he should have been attacking that back post. Looking to get in and fighting Trippier for that inside space. He didn’t do it. But he ends up benefiting from a mistake from Kieran Trippier.
“He don’t know the game. You can see that the boy, Mudryk. When he is stood out there and I am going ‘what are you doing there?’. He definitely needs working on.”

Chelsea’s chance to win a trophy
All that money was spent, yet very few signs that this team and club is going to move forward again.
It has been nothing but backwards steps from all. But that could prove to be a huge moment for all, including Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea will face Championship side, Middlesbrough in the League Cup semi-final. And if they see through that two-legged affair, which they should, then either Liverpool or Fulham await them.
Given Liverpool’s success in this competition and Jurgen Klopp’s success on the domestic stage, there is every chance that they will get to the final.
Chelsea need this more than most because, as things stand, they are facing yet another season without European football.
