Harry Redknapp has told TalkSport Breakfast (27/10/20 at 7:45 am) that he is worried about Dele Alli’s future after Jose Mourinho left him out of Tottenham’s matchday squad once again on Monday.

The former Spurs boss admitted that Tottenham’s ‘great talent’ needs to be ‘a little careful’ because his career could be heading in the wrong direction.

Whilst Alli is struggling to get into Tottenham’s Premier League squad, he did come off the bench during their recent Europa League encounter against LASK.

But after Mourinho opted to leave him out of the Turf Moor trip, Redknapp was asked whether he now worries for Alli and his future in North London.

”Yes, I do,” Redknapp told TalkSport. “But I am a big fan of his. He’s a great talent. It’s sad to see.

“He has got to be a little careful, he’s maybe at a crossroads, at the moment. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors? Jose sees him every day. There is obviously something he doesn’t like which is going on there. That’s why he’s not picked him. That’s why he has dropped him out of the squad.

“Whatever it is, I think Dele Alli needs to get back to the player we know he can be. He needs to get his head down and concentrate on his football because when he is playing well, he is a fantastic footballer.”

From the baby-faced teenager, who turned up at White Hart Lane five years ago without any fear in his eyes, he blew everyone away despite coming from the robust and tough-tackling third-tier of English football – he made that jump without any hesitation.

During the early years, Alli was proving to be a dangerous nuisance inside the penalty area and he was scoring goals for fun.

But as soon as Spurs started to stagnate under Mauricio Pochettino, so did he, and only for a small period when Mourinho first arrived, he hasn’t been able to get back to his best.
