Newcastle United have been linked with a summer move for Hull City defender Harry Maguire (Sunday People), and he would be a wonderful addition of Rafael Benitez’s side if they are able to bring the centre-back to St. James’ Park.

Maguire has been one of Hull’s stand out performers this season, with his consistent displays catching the eye.

The powerful defender looks at ease playing in the Premier League, and will surely attract the attentions of a number of clubs at the end of the season.

Signing Maguire will be easier should Hull go down, but the Tigers have shown a willingness to sell their key players – even while they have been in the Premier League.

And Magiure would be an ideal addition for Newcastle, if they were to achieve promotion.

Newcastle have been in excellent form in the Championship this season, but there is a feeling that their centre-backs will need upgrading if Benitez’s side are promoted.

Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Grant Hanley are all solid options in the second tier, but there are question marks over their abilities at the top level.

With Magiure, Newcastle would be bringing in a player who has proven he can play in the Premier League and still has time to develop.

The 23-year-old is still young enough to progress if he does move to Tyneside, meaning he fits into Newcastle’s transfer policy.

And if the Magpies have any chance of landing Maguire in the summer, he would be the perfect signing to help them compete back in the Premier League again.
