Leeds United made just the one signing on deadline day, finally landing Welsh winger Daniel James from Manchester United.

The Whites probably weren’t planning to make many moves late in the window, but the opportunity to finally sign James presented itself to Victor Orta.

Manchester United secured a blockbuster deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, and that means the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood will likely end up playing out wide.

That means James was pushed down the United pecking order, and Leeds wasted no time in striking a deal to sign the 23-year-old.

James looked set for Leeds back in January 2019, with a deal in place for him to leave Swansea City for Elland Road.

James was already at Leeds taking photos ahead of his move, but Swansea went quiet and the deal remarkably fell through, with Manchester United then swooping to sign him just months later.

The speedy winger now leaves after two years with the Red Devils, and his Old Trafford teammates have been reacting to the move.

England ace Harry Maguire took to Instagram to offer seven words for James, stating ‘Will miss you mate, all the best’, with the likes of David De Gea and Scott McTominay also reacting.

Diogo Dalot stated that James will ‘have a brilliant future’ ahead of him, urging him to keep on going as he leaves United to finally make his move to Leeds.
