Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has taken to Instagram to give his reaction to the passing away of Prince Philip, while Rangers have posted a message on Twitter.

Prince Philip has died at the age of 99. The announcement of the death of The Duke of Edinburgh, the longest-serving royal consort in British history, was made earlier today.

The Duke had been suffering from ill-health in recent times, having been admitted to the King Edward VII hospital in Marylebone, central London, on February 16. He stayed there until March 6, as reported by The Telegraph.

United defender Maguire is among the footballing figures to send a message to the Royal Family on Instagram.

A number of clubs, including Premier League duo United and Tottenham Hotspur and Scottish Premiership side Rangers, have also sent their condolences at the passing away of Prince Philip on social media, as shown below.

As reported by BBC Sport, the flag at Buckingham Palace was lowered to half-mast. A number of people came to place floral tributes outside the palace, while many visited Windsor Castle to pay their respects.

Prince Philip’s funeral will take place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, and it will not be a state funeral.
