Harry Maguire has now played under six different managers during his time at Manchester United.

Since arriving from Leicester City in August 2019, it has been a challenging spell for the English centre-back, filled with both difficult moments and periods of strong form.

He has also become an important figure under Ruben Amorim, even though he has not always been a regular starter. His experience has made him a valuable part of the squad, especially in big matches.

The change to Amorim’s back three has worked in Maguire’s favour. It gives him more cover and allows United to defend without relying so heavily on speed. The system helps keep things tighter at the back and suits his strengths better than previous set-ups.

Every player forms their own opinions about the managers they have worked under.

With so many changes in the dugout at Old Trafford over recent years, Maguire has seen plenty of different approaches to how United should play.

And speaking to Discover+ earlier this month, the Englishman highlighted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a manager who did not get the credit he deserved during his time in charge.

“Ole was brilliant, I think Ole was so underappreciated.

“He never got the recognition for what he was doing. It felt like, again, it was at Manchester United, if he was doing it at any other club he would have had recognition.

“It felt like everyone was waiting for the moment to kick him down, and he never allowed it, he was a real good manager, a real good staff around him with Kieran and Carrick, a fantastic man-manager, he knew how to look after his team and his players.

“It felt like he never really got the recognition and it was a shame really, ultimately that third season we didn’t do enough, the balance of the team wasn’t what we had the previous two years, but I can’t speak highly enough of Ole,” Maguire stated.

Solskjaer’s spell in charge followed Jose Mourinho’s departure and brought a clear shift in culture, though trophies remained out of reach during his time at the helm.

The Norwegian still left Old Trafford as a legend and remains a popular figure among supporters.

How did Man United finish during Solskjaer’s time?

Solskjaer managed two consecutive top-four finishes in the Premier League.

United ended up third in 2019/20 and second in 2020/21, marking a period of relative stability for the club.

It was also the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement that United had finished in the top four in back-to-back seasons.
