Tottenham are out of the Europa Conference League after they were handed a 3-0 loss by default for failing to fulfil their fixture against Stade Rennes.
Spurs fans, interestingly, weren’t too bothered about this decision. Stating that they can now focus on the league and forget about what is, with all due respect, a third-rate European competition.
However, while Spurs fans were quite happy to hear they’d been kicked out, we can imagine there’s one man who won’t be too impressed by this decision.
Indeed, in our view, Harry Kane has every reason to be annoyed about this ruling.
While Kane has struggled in the Premier League so far, in the Conference League he’s been on fire.
He’s netted four goals in four appearances in this competition, and before this ruling, he was certainly in the running to be the inaugural Golden Boot winner.
However, all of those goals now mean absolutely nothing. Spurs have been knocked out of the Conference League despite only actually losing two games, and Kane’s efforts mean diddly squat.

Effectively, he’s just been robbed of 57 per cent of the goals he’s scored this season, and that makes this campaign look so much worse.
Of course, he did still score those goals and they will count on his record, but, in reality, were those goals even worth scoring?
If Kane scores four goals in the Conference League and Spurs later get kicked out, did they really matter?
The striker is really struggling for form at the moment, but at least he could look at his Conference League tally with a bit of pride, but now, that’s been taken from him and those goals may have well as been scored in behind-closed-doors friendlies.
Kane’s season now looks so much worse when you realise that his Conference League efforts genuinely amounted to absolutely nothing.
