Tottenham Hotspur attacker Christian Eriksen this week told Ekstra Bladet that he is keen to leave the club for a new challenge.
This will have a number of knock on effects, and the player hardest hit if he leaves will be Harry Kane.
Eriksen has been a constant at Tottenham for Kane’s entire career at the club. The Spurs striker will have to adapt to life without him.
Striking up a partnership with a successor might not be so easy.
Talksport reported earlier in the season that Eriksen and Kane had the fourth highest assist to goalscorer connection in Premier League history.
Kane is a big asset to Spurs, arguably their most valuable. Getting the best out of him is essential, and this is one reason they should make a last ditch play to persuade Eriksen to sign a new deal despite his comments.
Tottenham are already reportedly considering selling right-back Kieran Trippier, BBC Sport report, who has a strong connection with Kane too, as he showed at the World Cup last summer in addition to his performances at club level.
Letting Eriksen go in addition to Trippier would leave Kane without two of his most reliable sources of goals.
Kane is good enough to overcome it, but an instant connection with new teammates may not come right away, and that could be a problem for Spurs early next season.
