Alan Hutton has said on BBC Radio 5 Live (3:54pm, October 3, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane was trying a bit too hard against Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today.

Hutton was co-commentary duty on BBC Radio 5 Live for the Premier League game between Tottenham and Villa this afternoon.

Kane started the match for the North London club and played for the entire 90 minutes.

The England international striker could not score.

Tottenham won 2-1.

Former Spurs right-back Hutton said: “He is one of the best strikers in the world for me, and he always will be. You go through these patches.

“Obviously what happened in the summer has affected him, but maybe at the moment he is just trying a little bit too hard. He is trying to get into the spaces where normally it comes naturally to him.”

How did Harry Kane play?

Kane did not play badly today, but the striker will be disappointed that he could not score.

The 28-year-old had chances and went very close on two occasions.

The England international, though, did link up well with his teammates and helped in a number of attacking plays.

Kane took six shots and four of them were on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 65.5%, won four headers, took 52 touches, attempted one dribble, made one tackle and two clearances, and put in three crosses.

What the Tottenham striker needs is a goal in the Premier League.

The floodgates could then open for Kane, who, as Hutton rightly notes, is one of the best strikers in the world.
