Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham Hotspur’s unconvincing displays at Wembley Stadium continued on Sunday, as they lost 2-1 to Chelsea in their second Premier League game of the new season.
Spurs opened their campaign with a 2-0 win at Newcastle, and after champions Chelsea lost 3-2 at home to Burnley in their first game, many were backing Tottenham to claim all three points against the Blues.

However, Marcos Alonso’s inch-perfect free kick handed Chelsea a 1-0 lead in the first half, with Spurs only clawing back an equaliser late in the game thanks to Michy Batshuayi’s own goal.
Spurs looked to be heading towards a point, but Alonso popped up with another goal to give Chelsea all three points, leaving many with questions over Tottenham’s impending fortunes at Wembley Stadium.
Spurs are playing all their home games at the national stadium whilst their new home is being built, and after some poor performances at Wembley in the Champions League and even the Europa League last season, some are concerned that the change of home could damage Tottenham.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men couldn’t prove people wrong on that front against Chelsea, but there is still plenty of time for Spurs to get it right at Wembley – and in truth, Spurs dominated the game against Chelsea, having 68% of possession and 18 shots on goal, as well as 14 corners as they struggled to break Chelsea down.
Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur
After the game, star striker Harry Kane took to Twitter to send a message to Tottenham fans, summing up the mood by stating that Sunday’s game was ‘very frustrating’ for Spurs.
However, he did match some positivity from Spurs fans, who believe that Tottenham will bounce back against Burnley next weekend – and Kane is adamant that his side will respond against the Clarets.
