Harry Kane has praised star Son Heung-min on Stadium Astro, saying his Tottenham teammate is a “joy to play with” after his 21st Premier League goal against Arsenal. Spurs are just a point behind Arsenal in fifth.
It was four points before Thursday night’s crucial North London derby clash. In what was hotly-anticipated as a close game, Spurs got their tactics right against Mikel Arteta’s men. Son was superb, as was Kane.
The latter scored twice – netting a penalty which Son won, before scoring a header from a Son corner, after a flick on from Rodrigo Bentancur. Kane then set up Son just after the break to make it 3-0, against 10-man Arsenal.
Speaking after the match, after two more goals, Kane paid tribute to Son for his wonderful performance and form of late. He praised Son’s weak-foot ability, and said the South Korea skipper is a joy to play alongside.
“Sonny has been fantastic for us, another goal tonight. Hopefully we can win him the golden boot. We work on the connection, we train together everyday but it comes with time. We’ve built up an understanding.
“Over the last two, three seasons especially. When I drop deep, I know he’ll run in behind. His finishing is fantastic, right and left foot and he’s a joy to play with,” Kane said, when talking to Stadium Astro.
Kane praises Tottenham star Son: Duo pivotal to fourth-place race
If Tottenham are going to get fourth, they need Kane and Son firing on all cylinders. Ruthless, against Burnley and Norwich in their final two games. Spurs have an easier run in than Arsenal, who face Everton and Newcastle.
While Arsenal are a point ahead and it is in their hands, their defence is beleaguered by injury – and Spurs play first on Sunday. Arsenal then go to Newcastle, with Spurs widely expected to cruise past Burnley this weekend.
Jamie Redknapp says he would rather be in Arsenal’s position in the final two games given they are a point ahead – but Spurs have the momentum.
