In an exclusive interview with BT Sport, Harry Kane divulged the two stars who inspired him as a youngster at Tottenham.
The England international opted for Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe as two players in particular from whom he tried to base his game when he was involved in the Spurs youth setup.
Kane, 23, has so far struggled to replicate the form he showed last season, and has found himself the target of heavy criticism from pundits and fans alike.
He did, however, score his first goal of the season last weekend during Spurs’ 4-0 win at Stoke City, as he proved once again that he is one of the most resilient players in the modern game.
The Spurs star has been at White Hart Lane for the entirety of his career, and has been present for the coming and going of many a great player.
Speaking to BT Sport, Kane explained how Keane and Defoe were fantastic role models for him as a 15-year-old:
Republic of Ireland’s Robbie Keane after the game
“Robbie Keane was one. He was the captain at the time, and obviously growing up watching him scoring goals, he was a player I looked up to a lot.”
He went on to say:
Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe in action
“Jermain Defoe as well – just an out-and-out goalscorer. I loved watching him in training just score goals, and I had that kind of finishing about myself. I learnt a lot off of him, just how quick he got his shots off, because I knew that if I wanted to play in the Premier League, that’s what I would have to do.”
Tottenham resume their Premier League duties on Sunday with a home match against a struggling Sunderland side, after their disappointing Champions League loss in the week.
