Tottenham Hotspur won 3-2 against West Ham United on Saturday.
Harry Kane has told the Hampstead and Highgate Newspaper that he believes Harry Winks was Tottenham Hotspur’s best player against West Ham United in their most recent outing.
Winks was handed his first ever Premier League start by Mauricio Pochettino in the contest, with the Argentine boss showing great faith in the 20-year-old.
Winks repaid Pochettino by scoring Tottenham’s first goal in their 3-2 win, and Kane thought his young teammate put in a standout performance.
“He [Winks] was outstanding, I thought he was our best player,” Kane said. “He controlled the game, he broke up play, he obviously scored. Everyone is buzzing for him.
“He works so hard. I was in a similar situation and you have to be patient for your chance. The gaffer called upon him this time and he was ready to take it.
“He’s repaid the gaffer’s faith in him and he’s instantly become a hero in a big London derby.”
Winks has developed through Spurs’ youth system to become a member of their first-team squad.
The joy Winks got from scoring his first senior goal was very evident, as he raced away to celebrate with Pochettino after seeing the ball hit the back of the net.
Winks’ happiness was almost short lived, though, as West Ham went back in front after the midfielder had scored.
It was then up to Harry Kane to save Spurs, with the England international scoring two late goals to ensure that they won the London derby.
Tottenham are still unbeaten in Premier League action this season, and currently sit in fifth place in the top flight table.
