The Sun are reporting tonight (10:30pm) that Tottenham Hotspur and Harry Kane will wait to see if Manchester United come calling amid interest from Manchester City.

What’s the story?

It is being reported tonight that City do not want to pay the £160 million transfer fee that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants for the striker.

The Premier League champions are happy to wait and make a move later in the summer transfer window.

On their part, Tottenham and Kane will wait to see if United ‘can be tempted into a bidding war.’

What was previously reported

It was only last night that The Sun claimed that Kane was set to join Pep Guardiola’s City in a £160 million deal.

The report added that Kane has ‘shaken hands on a £400,000-a-week deal with City’.

Bidding war over Harry Kane?

United are a rich club and one of the biggest in the world, but it is hard to see the Red Devils spend £160 million on Kane this summer.

Yes, Kane is a world-class striker who would be able to make an immediate impact at United, but £160 million is a lot of money to spend on a single player, especially when you consider that United have signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

The Guardian have reported that the English winger has cost United an initial transfer fee of £73 million.

Would United spend £100m+ on another player this summer?

Moreover, the Red Devils are well stocked in attack.

Edinson Cavani is staying, and Mason Greenwood is likely to be groomed as the Uruguayan striker’s long-term successor.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are also options for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Of course, anything is possible when the transfer window is open.

Sky Sports reported in May that United had been in touch with Kane’s representatives, so there is interest.

But it is likely that City and Tottenham will have to come to a compromise over Kane, as they could be left waiting for United to make a move for the striker.
