Harry Kane makes interesting claim about Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips in England training

Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane has praised Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips’ displays in England training on BeIN Sports, with the midfielder’s hard-work catching the eye of his country’s captain.

Phillips really took the acclaim yesterday, as he caught the eye with his first showing for England at an international tournament.

The Leeds man claimed the assist for Raheem Sterling’s goal, as he strode through in midfield and put in a perfectly weighted through ball.

It was a showing which really announced Phillips’ quality on the international stage.

But Kane says that the 25-year-old Leeds player has been showing England’s players exactly what he can do in training ever since he was called up.

“He’s been brilliant. He’s just come off the back of a shoulder injury and has been good in training,” Kane said.

“He’s been working hard to be fit for the first game and he was picked to be selected to today, and did a fantastic job.”

Controversial selection

When Phillips was announced on England’s teammsheet there was some surprise among supporters.

Jude Bellingham had impressed in pre tournament games, while there had been some hope that Jordan Henderson would be fit.

However, the Leeds academy graduate’s display has now surely cemented his place in Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up.

England are next in action on Friday evening, when they take on Scotland, and a victory would effectively secure their progress to the knockout stages.
