Well, Tottenham Hotspur clearly have a lot of work to do.

It’s undeniable that the Lilywhites have improved substantially since Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in North London.

However, Spurs were untested against elite Premier League opposition away from home, prior to Wednesday night.

Tottenham suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Chelsea in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.

And even the Italian manager himself conceded afterwards, during speaking to media, that the Blues were ‘much better’.

That was an honest and very accurate assessment from the 52-year-old because, really, Spurs were played off the park and it perhaps could’ve been a worse defeat.

On a positive note, this is a two-legged affair and Tottenham could potentially transform the tie yet.

However, improvement on a massive scale is needed if the former Chelsea and Inter manager wants his players in the final at Wembley.

Here is how striker Harry Kane reacted to the defeat – and performance – on Twitter afterwards.

All of Tottenham’s Premier League victories under Conte have been results you’d expect them to achieve.

They have beaten Watford, Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Brentford and Leeds United, with three of those outfits currently being in the Premier League’s bottom five.

Against elite opposition, Tottenham are miles from their quality but, with this being the January transfer window, it’s perhaps an ideal time to draw that conclusion
