Harry Kane has been doing a Q&A on Instagram, and inevitably, he’s been asked to name his favourite player to play alongside.
Now, many would imagine that this question would have an obvious answer – Heung-Min Son.
Indeed Kane and Son have broken records for being the best attacking partnership in Premier League history, and one would imagine that Son is Kane’s favourite teammate ever. After all, they have an almost telepathic understanding.
However, when Kane was asked who the best teammate to play with was, he gave a different, and surprising, answer.
On his Instagram story. Kane named Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney as his favourite teammate ever.
Kane and Rooney, of course, played together for England, but interestingly, Kane didn’t catch Rooney at his peak.
Kane made his England debut back in 2015, and by then, Rooney’s powers were already on the decline.
However, despite not being at his best, he still made a real impression on Kane, leading to the England captain naming his predecessor as his favourite ever teammate.
Sadly, we didn’t get to see too much of Kane and Rooney together, and the time they did spend on the pitch together was rather underwhelming.
The only major tournament these two shared was Euro 2016, and we all know what happened there…
A peak Wayne Rooney partnering a peak Harry Kane could have been absolutely incredible for England, but sadly, their paths didn’t overlap in such a way and the Three Lions didn’t get the most out of this partnership.
Kane and Rooney will certainly go down as two of the greatest strikers this country has ever produced.
