Tottenham Hotspur gave their title hopes a major boost as they beat Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
Spurs went into the game having beaten Southampton 2-1 at White Hart Lane before the international break, and manager Mauricio Pochettino was hoping to keep the club’s title aspirations alive.
That’s exactly what he got, as Spurs picked up a 2-0 victory over Burnley, with Eric Dier converting from close range after the Clarets failed to deal with a corner into the box.
Spurs then caught Burnley on the break in the 77th minute, as Dele Alli broke down the right hand side, before crossing into the box for Son Heung-min to tap home from point-blank range.
Tottenham’s three points were particularly important given that league leaders Chelsea were beaten 2-1 at home by Crystal Palace, meaning that Pochettino’s men have now cut the gap at the top to seven points.
After the final whistle, Tottenham players took to Twitter to offer their reactions to the victory, with goalscorer Dier admitting his relief at finally finding the net, before sending his best wishes to injured duo Harry Winks an Erik Lamela.

Fellow starters, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Ben Davies and Vincent Janssen also sent messages to fans, along with substitutes Mousa Dembele and Moussa Sissoko, all of whom celebrated the win.
Striker Harry Kane – missing through injury – also celebrated the victory, with Spurs no doubt hoping for his speedy recovery despite another win without him.
