Harry Kane admits Tottenham are desperate not to be in Chelsea record books

Spurs face the runaway league leaders at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has told Sky Sports that he and all of his teammates are desperate to get a positive result against Chelsea on Wednesday night to avoid becoming a footnote to their rivals making history.

The Blues, five points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand, will break the Premier League record for the number of consecutive wins in a single season if they can record a 14th victory in a row at White Hart Lane.

The previous record was held at 13 by Spurs’ arch-rivals Arsenal, and they will be desperate to prevent another old foe from setting a new benchmark on their own turf.

Kane admitted that not being the team to allow Chelsea to break the record is a key motivation for his side ahead of the clash, and they will also be looking to avenge the 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge back in late November, which ended Spurs’ unbeaten start to the campaign.

The England striker told Sky Sports: “We definitely don’t want to be the team that lets Chelsea break that record. Of course, we know that’s in our mind, we were just talking about it there in the changing room.

“We don’t want to be that team they break the record against so we’re fully focused. It’s going to be a great game and we’re excited for it.”

Clear in Spurs’ memory will also be the 2-2 draw at the Bridge back in May which ended the North London side’s title challenge thanks to Eden Hazard’s equaliser.

Kane insisted that Tottenham are “100 per cent” a better team than they were during that clash as they look to boost their own top four chances with a win on Wednesday.

He added: “I think we’re a better team now, 100 per cent,” Kane said. “I think we’re four or five points [it is four] better off than at this stage last season and we’ve probably not played as well as we did last season either.

“It shows we’re on the right track. A lot of us are bigger, stronger, better and more experienced so hopefully we can continue that through the second half of the season.”
