Hearts youngster Harry Cochrane and former Rangers teammate DaMarcus Beasley have both congratulated Kyle Lafferty on Twitter after the striker finally completed a return to Ibrox.

Lafferty, 30, penned a two-year deal at Ibrox on Wednesday after Rangers and Hearts finally agreed on a fee that sees the 67-time Northern Ireland international return to Glasgow – six years after leaving the Light Blues.

The former Norwich City, Birmingham City and Palermo striker left Rangers in 2012 when the club suffered a financial collapse and were forced to restart in the fourth tier. Now back in the big time, Steven Gerrard has lured Lafferty back.

Fans and players alike have rushed to congratulate the powerful striker, including former Hearts teammate Harry Cochrane as well as ex-Rangers star DaMarcus Beasley, with whom Lafferty played alongside during his previous four-year spell.

Lafferty made 134 appearances for Rangers between 2008 and 2012, scoring 36 goals as he was used out wide more than he is now. These days, Lafferty is a much more powerful centre-forward.

He is set to rival Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq for a place up front in Gerrard’s 4-3-3 system, and could even feature against Europa League opponents FC Ufa on Thursday night.

If he fails to make an appearance against the Russian Premier League side, Lafferty will have to wait until Sunday when Rangers face Motherwell at Fir Park.
