The PGA Tour could look very different very soon after proposals put forward by CEO Brian Rolapp.
Rolapp laid out several ideas ahead of The Players Championship last month, including promotion and relegation between different tiers of tournaments.
Another major proposal involves the PGA Tour aiming to have its best events feature 120-player fields with cuts.
The number of Signature Events could be doubled, with such tournaments expected to expand their field size and include a 36-hole cut.
PGA Tour ace Harris English has now shared his verdict on that proposal following experiments with smaller fields and no cuts.
Harris English loves cuts on the PGA Tour
When asked if he’s happy to see tournaments with 120 players and a cut, five-time PGA Tour winner English said on Dan on Golf: “I love that.
“You saw it at The Open when Max Homa made a putt on 18 to make the cut. That’s huge for us.
“I almost get more nervous around the cut line and making the cut than I do close to the lead in the tournament.
“It’s a total different nervousness. I had to do it this past week in Houston. I was -1 with two to play and had eight and nine to play.
“I was like the cut is going to be at least -2, it might go to -3. And I made a six or seven footer on eight for birdie and a four footer for birdie on nine.
“That was a huge confidence boost of your back being against the wall and I don’t want to go home tonight or Saturday morning, I want to play two more days to get ready for Augusta.
“That means a lot to us and it’s a total different feel when you are in these no-cut events and not playing well and are in 55th or 60th place and going through the motions.
“I am all for having 100 or 120 people and cut it down to 60 or 65 and keep going. I think that’s what separates us from any other Tour or any other sport and we have to keep that going.
“That is the backbone of how the PGA Tour was created.”

Brian Rolapp wants marquee event in revamped PGA Tour schedule
English’s opinion is likely to be shared by many, although there is likely to be opposition, as is always the case with such proposals.
But Rolapp is seemingly confident of pushing through with the change, of which he said: “This means moving away from small fields and no-cut events.
“Our best events will have larger fields – ideally, we are targeting something closer to 120-player fields with a cut.
“That consistency matters. It helps fans know who they will see and showcases who they want to see, the most competitive players.”
Along with that proposal and the two-tier format, other likely changes include a schedule from late-January to early-September, with a marquee event kicking off the calendar.
The plans have yet to be finalized, but over 30 meetings have already taken place in a bid to build the best possible PGA Tour product.
