Nuno Espirito Santo allegedly wanted to bring Haris Seferovic to Tottenham – and Spurs fans may be glad he didn’t manage to pull off a deal.

The Mirror reported in July that that Nuno fancied bringing Seferovic to Tottenham.

Seferovic had shown some quality at Euro 2020, prompting Nuno’s interest.

Benfica were willing to sell, but Tottenham chose not to sign Seferovic as cover for Harry Kane.

The 29-year-old has only played four games this season, scoring one goal.

Seferovic has never really been a goalscorer, making Nuno’s interest a little surprising at the time.

Tottenham didn’t really need a reminder that not signing Seferovic was the right move, but they have been given one anyway.

Seferovic produces shocking miss against Barcelona

Seferovic was thrown on in Benfica’s Champions League trip to Barcelona with less than 10 minutes to play.

In the dying seconds of the game, Darwin Nunez broke down the right flank before picking out an unmarked Seferovic.

After taking the ball around Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Seferovic had the goal his mercy.

Remarkably, Seferovic contrived to put the ball wide. Benfica could only draw 0-0 at the Camp Nou after what could be a pivotal miss.

Had Benfica won, they would be on seven points. That would be one point ahead of Barcelona with one group game to go.

Instead, Barcelona’s destiny is in their own hands. If they win their final group game, they will go through to the knockout stages and Benfica will drop to the Europa League.

If that happens, Seferovic’s miss will be so costly – and Tottenham will surely be glad to have missed out after that miss.
