West Ham United were thrashed 5-1 by Arsenal on Saturday evening – much to Matthew Etherington’s concern.
Former West Ham United winger Matthew Etherington has taken to Twitter to share his concern after the club’s 5-1 defeat to Arsenal – but doesn’t think the Hammers will be relegated.
West Ham suffered another humiliating defeat in a dismal season to date, as Arsenal swept them aside without barely having to break a sweat at the London Stadium.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic
After Mesut Ozil’s first-half opener, Arsenal ran riot in the second half, with Alexis Sanchez scoring two great solo goals before Andy Carroll pulled back a consolation for the Hammers.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s goal and another from Sanchez to complete his hat-trick made it 5-1 to Arsenal, and gave West Ham an eighth defeat from 14 Premier League games.

The pressure is mounting on manager Slaven Bilic after just three wins this season – a far cry from last season’s seventh placed finish – and West Ham are now hovering precariously above the relegation zone.
West Ham lie just one point and one place above the drop zone, and only three points ahead of bottom club Swansea as the Hammers have been firmly dragged into the relegation battle.
Matthew Etherington in action for West Ham United
After Saturday’s defeat, former West Ham winger Matthew Etherington took to Twitter to offer his thoughts, suggesting that the game was ‘hard to watch’, as West Ham look a shadow of the side which impressed so much last season.
Etherington added that he’s worried about the club due to injuries and poor recruitment, but doesn’t think West Ham will get relegated this season, whilst pleading for manager Bilic to be given more time.
