Thomas Muller is hoping to see Niklas Sule stay at Bayern Munich amid reports suggesting the German international could join Newcastle United’s Premier League revolution, as he told BILD

Back in April, when he was quizzed about the prospect of Jerome Boateng leaving the Allianz Arena, the ever-mischievous Muller managed to say so much without ever really saying anything at all.

But, despite the forward’s very public admiration for his fellow World Cup winner, Bayern opted against offering Boateng a new deal, allowing the veteran defender to join Lyon on a free transfer.

Six months on, a decision must now be made about another centre-half who has won all there is to win in the iconic red shirt of FC Hollywood.

According to BILD, a Newcastle side who suddenly have more money than they know what to do with have identified the 6ft 5ins Sule as one of their first marquee signings of a bold new era at St James’ Park.

Sule will become a free agent in July 2022 and, as yet, Bayern have not shown that they are willing to meet his £160,000-a-week demands (Sport1).

Will Bayern Munich disappoint Thomas Muller and release Niklas Sule?

“He is currently doing very well. That is the bottom line. If he delivers, then he’s a very important player for us,” said Muller, leaving no one in any doubt about his feelings towards a man who set up his goal in Sunday’s 5-1 thumping of Bayer Leverkusen.

Sule made his name as an uncompromising, no-nonsense man-mountain but, as far as Muller is concerned, it is his ability with the ball at his feet that marks the 26-year-old out as a special talent.

“When he’s dribbling, he’s hard to stop. It’s surprising when a central defender is dribbling all of a sudden,” added Muller, comparing Sule to a former Bayern and Brazil star.

“It used to be the same with Lucio.”

Alongside Boateng, Bayern also allowed David Alaba to leave on a free after refusing to meet his substantial wage demands.
