Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has said on The Lockdown Tactics that he is open to returning to Celtic in the future.

The Scotland international left-back was at Celtic as a kid, but he was let go, and the defender moved to Queen’s Park.

After making his professional debut for Queen’s Park, the 26-year-old switched to to Dundee United and then to Hull City in England before earning the big move to Liverpool in the summer of 2017.

As reported by BBC Sport, the Reds paid Hull an initial transfer fee of £8 million for Robertson, and that has proven to be a bargain, with the left-back having progressed tremendously under manager Jurgen Klopp and is now one of the best left-backs in Europe.

Robertson has said that he wants to stay at Liverpool for the rest of his career, but the left-back has suggested that he would be open to a return to Celtic in the future.

Robertson said on The Lockdown Tactics regarding a future move to Celtic, as transcribed by The Glasgow Evening Times: “When I was younger I wanted to play for Celtic and give my best years to Celtic.

“I didn’t want to be hanging on and going there at 33 or 34 when I knew my best years were gone.

“It might be something I’ll need to think about at some stage. I still follow Celtic and they still have a place in my heart.

“It would be hard to say ‘no’ but if I did have the option of retiring at Liverpool I’d bite your hand off for it and I’d probably sign the contract now.”

Future Celtic move?

Robertson is at the top of his game, and he should stay there for a few more years at least.

It is hard to see the left-back go back to Celtic anytime soon, but perhaps when he is in his early 30s, a move to the Hoops could materialise.
