Blackburn Rovers look set to miss out with Anel Ahmedhodzic’s father confirming that the defender is set to seal a £3 million move to Championship rivals Sheffield United, speaking to Reprezentacija.
The 23-year-old Bosnia and Herzagovina international certainly has unfinished business in England’s second tier. And he returns a more mature, confident footballer than the one who left Nottingham Forest via the back door back in 2019, having played just one league game for the two-time European champions.
Ahmedhodzic is heading Sheffield United despite being linked with big-money moves to Chelsea, Manchester United and Napoli in recent transfer windows.
And while his 2021/22 campaign ended in relegation, the 6ft 5ins giant still emerged from the wreckage of Bordeaux’s disastrous season with his reputation unscathed.
Sheffield United close in on Anel Ahmedhodzic
According to The Star, Ahmedhodzic has already undergone medical tests in Yorkshire. He will now jet out to Lisbon to meet his new Blades team-mates.
“They still have some little things to finish. Then, they will go to Portugal for preparations. It’s just waiting for the clubs to make that deal,” says Ahmedhodzic’s father, Mirsad.

“He is happy, of course, England is England. I told him: ‘Have a good season and then it’s easy to move on’. Sheffield United is an ambitious club. They are favourites for the top spot, so this is a good option by all accounts.”
‘Have a good season and then it’s easy to move on’? Has Ahmedhodzic Sr just revealed that his son sees Bramall Lane as a stepping stone to something bigger?
“Here, I’m drinking coffee and waiting to see if the clubs have agreed. (The announcement) will probably be today,” Mirsad adds.
“Blackburn is also in the race. There is coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, who already managed him at Malmo. He wants him.”
Ahmedhodzic will become Sheffield United’s second signing of the summer. The Blades, who lost to Nottingham Forest in last term’s play-off semi-finals, announced Tommy Doyle’s move to Yorkshire this week from Premier League champions Manchester City.
