Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has been discussing Jesse Marsch and his red card against Brentford at the weekend.
The American lost his head against the Bees, receiving a red card for his touchline antics after his team were denied a penalty by VAR.
Marsch was incensed by what was, admittedly, a poor refereeing decision, and he was sent off for his protestations in the technical area.
Marsch has often preached about how important discipline is in the past, and Seaman was quick to point out that the Leeds boss needs to lead by example.
What’s been said?
Seaman discussed Leeds and Marsch’s red card.
“Leeds got hit for five which was the old Leeds. As much as everyone loves to watch Leeds, for me it’s for the wrong reasons because it’s going to be a lot of goals,” Seaman said.
“With Jesse Marsch doing what he does on the bench, I’m like ‘just calm down’, then he goes on about discipline and things like that and I’m thinking hang on a minute, you have to lead by example, you got sent off mate. It did make me laugh a bit.”
Practice what you preach
Leeds have had some discipline issues under Marsch – Dan James and Luke Ayling’s red cards towards the end of last season spring to mind, and while Marsch wants to stamp that out of his players, he needs to practice what he preaches.
Yes, football can be a frustrating game and we can’t blame Marsch for losing his temper, but it’s hard to take his calls for discipline seriously when he himself is being red-carded.
A red card for a player is much more calamitous than a red card for a manager, but if Marsch is to get a lid on his team and their supposed hot-headedness he needs to calm himself down.
