West Ham United appointed David Moyes as their new manager on a short-term deal today.
Hammers legend Tony Cottee was a guest on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily programme this morning (November 7th), and criticised his former club’s decision to bring David Moyes to the club on a short-term deal.
Slaven Bilic was sacked as West Ham manager yesterday, after the club made a woeful start to their 2017/18 Premier League campaign, and the Croatian left with the east London outfit sitting precariously in 18th position in the table.
Moyes certainly has his work cut-out, if he is to guide his side away from the danger-zone.
The Hammers looked not only totally bereft of ideas under Bilic, but they also seemed as though they had lost all belief in what they were being asked to do.
And it is debatable whether the Scotsman will have any more success than the recently departed Croatian.
Cottee, who made 339 appearances for West Ham during two separate spells with the club, blasted the Hammers board’s decision to only offer Moyes a six-month deal, when speaking live on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily programme:
“Slaven Bilic was into the last year of his contract (when he left). As soon as there is uncertainty at a football club, players switch off, players lose concentration, and that’s what happens. So I don’t want to read that David Moyes has got it until the end of the season. Why not give him a contract? Give him a contract.”

The former Everton manager’s remit will be to keep the Hammers in the Premier League this season, and if he manages to do just that, there is a good chance he will be given the opportunity to take the club into the following campaign.
