The West Ham United defender has looked reborn as a left-sided centre-back.

During Aaron Cresswell’s poor run of form, West Ham United fans were in no doubt that he would, eventually, come good.

It was a comment made time and again, with the Hammers faithful believing the 27-year-old was too good to simply wallow in mediocrity for a prolonged period of time, and so it has proved.

However, few West Ham fans would have expected Cresswell’s return to form to accompany a change of position, with the left-back now one of the most in-form centre-backs in the Premier League.

The switch was brave from West Ham boss David Moyes, proving that a change in thinking was vital for the club after Slaven Bilic had simply run out of ideas.

Switching Cresswell to the centre has seen a considerable improvement in West Ham’s form, and back-to-back clean sheets against Chelsea and Arsenal speaks volumes.

The Hammers are now hard to beat, and that will go a long way to helping them move away from the drop zone in the months ahead.

As for Cresswell, he is now on course to earn a place on the plane for England’s World Cup campaign, and he looks set for a prolonged run in the centre.

In short, the West Ham player did come good, just not as his fans would have expected.
