Darren Bent has claimed that Arsenal fans gave Aaron Ramsdale a ‘hard time’ before he could even make his debut for the club, as he told The Over View.
The former Premier League striker, who is a boyhood Arsenal fan, shared that he is ‘delighted’ that Ramsdale is now number one.
Arsenal secured the talents of the Englishman in the summer when they nabbed him from relegated-Sheffield United.
A lot was made of the transfer and why the club have pushed for a player that suffered back-to-back relegations with Bournemouth and Sheffield United, respectively.
Despite that, Mikel Arteta saw something in the player and showcased that by bringing him to North London, despite some questioning the transfer.
And Bent has backed Ramsdale being pushed ahead of Bernd Leno now, despite the 23-year-old getting ‘hammered’ by Arsenal fans.
“I am delighted about that (Ramsdale being number one),” said Bent. “Arsenal fans gave him a hard time. They hammered him by saying ‘why is he coming?’
“He’s a better goalkeeper than Leno because I don’t like Leno, one bit. He’s (Ramsdale) a strong character. It’s one thing Arsenal misses badly. Leaders.
“So, the fact that he is now number one, I am happy with that decision.”

Life has started in the fashion Ramsdale would have liked and that’s three clean sheets in all competitions.
It does seem as though Arteta will now push with him as number one and that probably signals the end of Leno’s career at the club.
The German’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and unless Ramsdale falls off a cliff, it seems as though the Gunners have now found their long-term number one.
It’s a shame for Leno because, for most parts, he has been outstanding for Arsenal, only for his form to dip during these past 12 months.
