Glasgow Rangers caretaker boss Graeme Murty has won both of his games since returning to the Ibrox first-team’s dugout.

In comments reported by the Sunday Post, Hamilton boss Martin Canning has heaped praise upon Graeme Murty and insisted that the Rangers caretaker boss is probably not allowing himself to think about the possibility of getting the Ibrox job on a permanent basis.

Murty has done his reputation no harm whatsoever since stepping back into the breach following Pedro Caixinha’s departure last month, winning both of his games in charge which has seemingly given the Gers more than enough confidence that they do not need to rush into a decision regarding the Portuguese’s permanent successor.

And ahead of Accies’ visit to Ibrox this weekend following the end of the international break and the return of the Scottish Premiership, Canning has only had positive things to say about the man who looks set to be in the opposition dugout.

“He’s done well both times. He was on my pro licence (course) and he’s a lovely guy. He’s a proper football man. I’m glad to see him doing well when he gets the opportunity,” he said, as reported by the Sunday Post.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“You go and do the best you can do. Graeme is probably not even thinking about it longer term, he is just thinking game by game, getting the best results he can get and see where it leads.”

It is not clear if Murty getting the job on a permanent basis is an option being considered by the board, but there can surely be no doubt that he would boost his chances of being appointed if he is able to oversee a victory over Canning’s men.

Caixinha never won three games in a row during his brief tenure, and Murty may be about to do it with a squad that he has not put together – barring the academy graduates that he has helped develop and now brought into the fold.

Murty may be being discounted by the board due to his lack of experience, but even if he is, he has simply got to stay focused on picking up the wins in the hope that he puts himself into a position where the hierarchy simply cannot ignore him as a candidate.
