Dietmar Hamann said on talkSPORT that he would be surprised if Thiago Alcantara does not join Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool and Bayern Munich defensive midfielder has raved about Thiago and was impressed with the performance of the 29-year-old central midfielder in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening.

According to The Mirror and The Daily Mail, Premier League champions Liverpool are interested in signing the former Barcelona central midfielder from Bayern in the summer transfer window.

Hamann said on talkSPORT, as trancribed by The Liverpool Echo: “I’d be very surprised if he turns down a contract for Bayern Munich if he hasn’t got anything else so I am sure he’s got an offer from Liverpool now. It is probably about the transfer fee now.

“I have got to say yesterday I never felt he’s a defensive or a holding midfielder or he can play that role but I have got to say he was absolutely magnificent yesterday the way he pulled things together.

“He’s a brilliant footballer as we know so I think he can a different and a new dimension to Liverpool’s midfield. I would be surprised if he doesn’t end up in Liverpool.”

Good signing for Liverpool?

Thiago was superb for Bayern against PSG and was arguably the best player on the pitch.

According to WhoScored, Thiago took one shot which was not on target, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 88.2%, took 95 touches, attempted two dribbles, and made three tackles and two interceptions.

The Spain international is at the top of his game and would make an immediate impact at Anfield, and he would be a brilliant signing for the Reds.

However, having just won the Champions League with Bayern, it remains to be seen if Thiago would be willing to switch clubs.

Thiago would enhance Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League title again next season.
