Hamann: City star’s poor form may force club to spend

Dietmar Hamann has commented on the struggles Joe Hart has been having in the Manchester City goal.

Former Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann says the club will replace Joe Hart, unless he improves soon.

The City stopper put in a poor display against Bayern Munich last night, as he let in two goals against the German champions.

Thankfully for the England international Sergio Aguero’s hat-trick, which gave City the 3-2 win, took much of the spotlight off his errors, but Hamann has not forgotten them.

“What he was doing for the first goal, God knows, and he is making mistake after mistake,” he said to TalkSPORT.

“He is not the same goalkeeper he was a few years ago. His confidence looks shot.

“Sooner or later they will bring a new keeper in if he doesn’t improve.

Hart’s form has been called into question after the stopper has made a series of mistakes this season.

City brought in Willy Caballero this summer to provide the 27-year-old with more competition in the hope that it would raise his performance levels, but it doesn’t seem to have had the desired impact.

It leaves Manuel Pellegrini with a selection dilemma in his squad, but such is City’s wealth they may choose to address the issue in January.

The current Premier League champions have the funds to bring in most players from across Europe and should Pellegrini believe that he needs an upgrade in between the sticks one is likely to arrive.

It may be too late to rescue this season, though. Although the club have just about clung onto their Champions League status, they already have a lot of catching up to do in the Premier League.

The Citizens are currently eight points behind Chelsea and it already looks an unassailable gap unless the Blues’ standards slip hugely.
