Hadi Sacko has told Spanish newspaper AS that his decision to leave Leeds United and join Spanish outfit Las Palmas this summer was influenced by new manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The 24-year-old has left Elland Road just a year after signing for the club permanently from Sporting Lisbon, moving to the relegated La Liga side on a season-long loan.

Sacko managed just 14 Championship outings last season, clocking up only 279 minutes of league action and spoke in a press conference after his move to Las Palmas – which was confirmed just days after Leeds’ win over the Spanish side.

The France-born Mali international stated that negotiations had been going on for weeks, and that Victor Orta helped smooth over a deal. But Sacko also states that new boss Bielsa was a main reason for his departure.

“Two weeks ago they contacted me through the sports director of Leeds,” Sacko said. “Las Palmas was interested in me and that greatly influenced the decision. I did not want to give a quick answer, but seeing the team last weekend, that’s when I decided.

“To be honest, we had a new coach at Leeds who said it would be difficult to maintain the position.”

Leeds have brought in Jack Harrison on loan from Manchester City, while the club also boast Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez as options out wide.

The Whites have offloaded a whole host of players, stemming from Bielsa’s first press conference in which he said the club have 15 too many players. The Argentine has since waved goodbye to 13.

Andy Lonergan and Luke Murphy have terminated their contracts, while Marcus Antonsson, Madger Gomes, Ronaldo Vieira and Felix Wiedwald have left permanently.

Seven players with first-team experience have left the club on loan. Speed machine Sacko joins Jay-Roy Grot, Paudie O’Connor, Lewie Coyle, Tyler Denton, Pawel Cibicki and Mallik Wilks who will all return next summer.
