Ben Davies heaped praise on Joe Rodon for standing up and producing the goods for Tottenham on his first Premier League start on Sunday after having to be ‘patient’ for an opportunity, as he told his press conference.

Spurs secured a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge, with Rodon playing alongside the experienced Eric Dier at the heart of the defence.

Despite it being such a pressured match, Rodon stood his ground and helped Spurs secure a very valuable clean sheet.

His fellow countryman was impressed with the performance he put in and how he has gone about things since moving to North London.

“At Stamford Bridge, against the quality that they have is a real tough game to come into for your first one,” said Davies. “But I thought he did really well.

“The challenges he was up against all game. The intensity of it all. He didn’t have too much options on the ball sometimes. But I thought he really stood up to it.

“He’s had to be patient, but he has deserved his chance and took it.”

There is quite the Welsh contingent that is building up at Spurs because that’s Rodon, Davies and Gareth Bale all flying the flag for their country.

All three will be hoping to play key roles for Jose Mourinho this season, as Spurs aim to remain at the top of the table and secure a domestic trophy.

The return of Bale and the signing of Rodon has added some much-needed depth which was needed in North London and it provides Mourinho with that spring to lift Spurs to heights they have never reached before.
