Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp has been discussing Roberto Firmino’s future after the signing of Cody Gakpo.
The Dutch striker is the Reds’ newest addition, and all of a sudden the Merseyside club’s attack is looking rather crowded.
Indeed, with Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and now Gakpo in the squad, the attack is looking rather bloated, and many have speculated whether this means a departure is in the pipeline.
Of course, the main candidate to leave the club of the aforementioned players is Firmino. The Brazilian striker is out of contract in the summer and at the age of 31, he’s heading towards the tail end of his career.
However, despite Firmino’s departure seeming quite logical, Klopp says that he definitely wants the Brazilian to stay at the club, stating that Gakpo’s arrival has had no impact on how he feels about Firmino.

The German spoke about the attacker’s future.
“No. We had talks with Bobby. From my point of view I definitely want him to stay. It has no impact. If it effects Bobby then you’d have to ask him,” Klopp said.
Still vital
Firmino may be getting older and his contract may be winding down, but he’s still a vital player for this Liverpool team.
Let’s not forget, he’s the Reds’ top scorer in the league this season, and while he may slow down as he ages, his experience is invaluable.
The likes of Gakpo and Nunez haven’t yet experienced what it means to win major titles with Liverpool, and having guidance from a player like Firmino will surely help them settle and learn what it means to be a successful player at this football club.
