Some Liverpool fans on Twitter have reacted to the debacle involving Jamal Lewis.
According to Sky Sports News, Norwich City have accepted a £13.5 million offer from Newcastle United for the young left-back.
Thing is, Lewis was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool during August following the Canaries’ relegation and the newly-demoted Championship side were reportedly holding out for £20 million [The Telegraph].
Even stranger, the Magpies’ successful offer was only £1.5 million higher than the Reds’ most recent bid of £12 million.
The Guardian reported last month that the 22-year-old was keen to join the Premier League champions, who later brought Kostas Tsimikas to Merseyside instead.
And some Liverpool fans on Twitter are claiming that Lewis is the biggest victim in this strange turn of events.
And the Reds’ supporters are absolutely right.
If Lewis had his heart set on a switch to Anfield, and City scuppered it by inflating his value, then the player himself should justifiably feel upset.
But every cloud has a silver lining and if he winds up at Newcastle then it could be a better career move.
After all, Lewis is a top talent, but is he going to play ahead of Andy Robertson? The short answer is no and therefore maybe, just maybe, things will work out just fine for the young defender.
