Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno must be – and should be – a very relieved man tonight.

The Gunners had one of their most entertaining matches of the season earlier this afternoon by drawing 3-3 away to West Ham United.

Thing is, Arsenal were three goals down inside 32 minutes and Leno certainly played his role in that scoreline.

The German goalkeeper, a £22 million signing in 2018, inexplicably allowed Jarrod Bowen’s shot to squirm underneath him for the Hammers’ second of the day.

Leno, to his credit, managed to make a few decent saves on the day, but he more than anybody else will be relieved at his team-mates’ comeback.

Here’s how Karen Carney reacted to his performance on BBC Radio 5 Live: “It’s not even a good finish. Leno has had a shocker. Arsenal have completely switched off. There were so many mistakes leading up to it. It’s just embarrassing.”

This is the thing with Leno.

Sometimes he’s a world beater and other times he is totally vulnerable to conceding the silliest and softest of goals.

Times like these serve as a reminder that Arsenal sold Emiliano Martinez last summer and their performances as a whole this season might indicate it was the wrong decision.
