Bolton Wanderers look likely to beat Derby County and Birmingham City to the one-time Leeds United loanee.
On occasions, Leeds United’s more experimental striker signings have worked a treat. The glory days of Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio still carry a great deal of nostalgia at Elland Road, while supporters will hope Caleb Ekuban will follow in their esteemed footsteps.
However, it’s fair to say Habib Habibou won’t go down in Leeds United folklore, at least not for the right reasons.
Few expected to see Habibou back in English football
A relative unknown when he arrived in West Yorkshire on loan from Belgian side Zulte Waregem in 2013, the 6ft 4ins powerhouse departed five months later with just four appearances, and no goals, under his belt.
Therefore, you could excuse Leeds supporters for choking on their coffee as HITC sources tell us that Bolton Wanderers are in talks to bring Habibou back to England. And they are not the only club who are interested, with Derby County and Birmingham City also in the mix.
Second time lucky?
It’s a rumour that has certainly raised a few eyebrows. After all, following his departure from Leeds in May 2013, Habibou was without a club for over a year until Rennes came calling.
However, scoring just three goals in 27 games for the Ligue 1 side, plus a nine game barren spell at Turkish outfit Gaziantespor, should set the alarm bells ringing at Bolton.

Despite the impending addition of Adam Armstrong from Newcastle United on a season-long loan, The Trotters could do with another goalscorer as they aim to survive their first season back in the second tier.
Therefore, they will be hoping to welcome the Habibou who netted six in 13 at Ligue 2 outfit Lens last season rather than the forgotten man who failed to score a single goal for Leeds.
