Gylfi Sigurdsson’s wage demands could end hopes of a return to Tottenham.

According to The Mirror, Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson wants more than £120,000-a-week in wages to join Everton – and that should effectively rule out a return to Tottenham this summer.
Sigurdsson, 27, has again proven himself as one of the Premier League’s top attacking midfielders this season, having racked up nine goals and 13 assists in a struggling Swansea side.

The Icelandic star has been Swansea’s leading man ever since he re-joined the club from Tottenham in the summer of 2014, and his performances appear to have attracted interest ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Mirror report that Everton want to land Sigurdsson, but his wage demands of more than £120,000-a-week could scupper the move – and that would surely end any hopes of a return to Tottenham too.

The Daily Mail claimed last week that Tottenham were eyeing up a move to re-sign Sigurdsson this summer, given concerns over their pursuit of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, but the alleged wage demands may well scupper those plans.
Tottenham’s highest earners – Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris – earn around £100,000-a-week according to the London Evening Standard, and there is little chance of them making Sigurdsson their highest earner having sold him in the first place just three years ago.

Daniel Levy’s strict control over the wages being offered at White Hart Lane means that Sigurdsson would be more likely to earn his wage demands at Everton than at Tottenham, unless Levy suddenly decides to completely change his policy – and that seems almost infeasible.
Whether Sigurdsson would be keen on a return to Tottenham anyway is another matter, having endured a mostly underwhelming spell in North London, but those alleged wage demands mean that Tottenham re-signing Sigurdsson this summer looks increasingly unlikely.
