Gylfi Sigurdsson reacts to Everton’s Cenk Tosun deal, offers verdict having faced him previously

Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson has offered his view on new signing Cenk Tosun.

Everton playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson has told the club’s official website that he thinks Cenk Tosun is a good signing for the club, having played against him on the international stage.

The Toffees fell to a 2-1 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Friday night, but one piece of good news did come out of the day for manager Sam Allardyce.

The Everton boss secured his first signing in the job, as the club completed a deal for Turkish international striker Cenk Tosun, landing him from Besiktas.

Tosun, 26, has been a sensation for Besiktas ever since his 2014 move from Gaziantepspor, scoring 50 goals in his first three seasons before notching 14 goals in 24 games this term.

After failing to replace Romelu Lukaku over the summer following his move to Manchester United, Everton now finally appear to have a goalscorer, though some fans may not be too familiar with his exploits.

Now, Everton ace Gylfi Sigurdsson – who scored Everton’s goal in the 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on Friday night – has offered his view on the deal.

Sigurdsson has told the club’s official website that any good player joining the club is a major positive, and he believes Tosun is certainly a good player.

Sigurdsson noted that he has played against Tosun on the international stage, and believes he is a player with quality, whilst hoping that he gets off to a fine start with the Toffees.

“Every good player who comes to the Club is a positive and he is one of them,” said Sigurdsson. “I have played against him a couple of times for Iceland, so I know he is a good player. Hopefully, he will settle in quickly and hit the ground running,” he added.
