Gylfi Sigurdsson has a bunch of unflattering stats at Everton, but one stands out among the rest.
It’s fair to say that Gylfi Sigurdsson’s Everton career isn’t going brilliantly.
The Iceland international joined the Toffees in a £40 million deal in what was probably the biggest and longest transfer saga of the summer transfer window.
Was he worth the wait? Not yet. The Everton man is yet to score or set up a single goal for the Goodison Park club.
But leaving that aside for a moment: Sigurdsson hasn’t even created what Opta refers to as a ‘big chance’ since joining Ronald Koeman’s side.
Worse yet, the 27-year-old has had 479 minutes – or six games – in which to set up a goalscoring chance but the former Tottenham star has clearly struggled in that department.
It would be easy to point the finger of blame at Sigurdsson but perhaps such a disappointing statistic is also reflective of the theory that he has little to work with.
Everton failed to sign a top-class striker in the summer and you wonder whether Sigurdsson would be the £40 million player who set up 13 Premier League goals last season if the movement around him was better.
