Tottenham Hotspur made a transfer announcement on Thursday, but it wasn’t an arrival.
Fans of the North London club are eagerly awaiting confirmation that their club has signed Sergio Reguilion – and re-signed Gareth Bale.
If and when Bale returns to Tottenham, it’ll probably be the biggest transfer of the summer in England – and potentially Europe.
But Spurs’ transfer announcement yesterday was about none of them, but Jack Roles.
The 21-year-old has left the Lilywhites on a half-season loan to join Burton Albion in League One.
Roles, a midfielder, had an excellent loan spell with Cambridge United in League Two last term, scoring five goals.
And it’ll be interesting to see how he fares with the step-up in class this season.
Here’s how Tottenham fans reacted to the announcement on Twitter:
At 21, it seems unlikely at this stage that Roles has much of a long-term future with the North London club.
He’s a talent, but Roles’s contract with Tottenham expires next summer and they probably wouldn’t have loaned him out without first giving him an extension, if there was a hope that he could make it.
Yes, he’s only on loan until January but even then it doesn’t give the youngster a lot of time to earn an extension.
