O’Neill has returned to Forest, 38 years after leaving the club as a player in 1981.

Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Martin O’Neill will return to the club almost 40 years after leaving as a player to replace Aitor Karanka at the managerial helm – and former Forest midfielder Guy Moussi is delighted.
O’Neill, who has been out of work since he parted company with the Republic of Ireland national team, has replaced Aitor Karanka at the City Ground where he is regarded as a club legend.
Karanka parted ways last week despite the club sitting seventh place and just a whisker away from the top six. But Saturday’s loss to Reading has seen Forest slip into ninth, and now four points behind sixth-placed Derby County.
But Forest fans will be optimistic over their side’s chances of achieving a place in the play-offs, with club legend O’Neill now at the helm and ex-Forest star Moussi is a fan of his appointment.
O’Neill spent 10 years at Forest during his time as a player, first joining the club in 1971 and helping them win the European Cup on two occasions as well as the first division in 1978-79.
The ex-Sunderland, Aston Villa, Leicester City and Celtic manager will be in the dugout on Saturday afternoon, as Forest play host to Bristol City at the City Ground.
