Aston Villa fans have reacted on Twitter to the rumours that they are admirers of Oriol Romeu.
The Telegraph have claimed that Villa’s recruitment team and coaching staff like the Southampton midfielder.
Even though Villa have Douglas Luiz and Marvelous Nakamba as bonafide sitting midfielders to choose from, it seems as though the club are searching the market for competition in that area ahead of the new campaign.
There was a mixed response from Villa fans to the Romeu news, with the ex-Barcelona academy product having played for both Chelsea and Southampton during his time in the Premier League.
Luiz has been Villa’s main guy in that defensive role for Dean Smith, but towards the end of last season, Nakamba did replace him in the XI and he played pretty well.
Plus, Villa have John McGinn, January signing Morgan Sanson and the returning Conor Hourihane to choose from for their other central midfield options.
Not forgetting the club’s rising academy star, Carney Chukwuemeka, who was handed his Premier League debut against Tottenham.
Either way, with Villa also looking at another Saints player in James Ward-Prowse, it does seem as though Smith wants to add more quality and depth to that area of the field.
