Everton appointed Marcel Brands as their new director of football this summer.

Former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has told Everton’s official website that he thinks Marcel Brands will be ‘very good’ for the Toffees following his arrival this summer.
Everton endured a disappointing campaign last season, and decided to make major changes by sacking manager Sam Allardyce as well as director of football Steve Walsh.
Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri had two long-term targets in mind, and landed them both as Marco Silva arrived to replace Allardyce, whilst Brands left PSV Eindhoven for Goodison Park.
The Dutchman helped bring the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Dries Mertens and Kevin Strootman to PSV, and has set about repeating his success on Merseyside.
Brands struck three deals with Barcelona this summer as Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes all arrived, whilst he also snapped up Joao Virginia, Kurt Zouma, Bernard and Richarlison in a busy summer.
Fans have been impressed with Brands’ deals compared to the ageing players predecessor Walsh brought in, and now one former Premier League boss has hailed the Everton man.
Former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink knows Brands from their days in their native Netherlands, and he has revealed to Everton’s official website that he even wanted to sign Brands – then of Feyenoord – for Fenerbahce in the 1990’s.

Hiddink added a prediction about Brands, believing he will prove to be ‘very good’ for Everton, praising his ‘qualities’ as a director of football.
“I know him very well, I co-operated a lot with him at PSV and knew him very well before that,” said Hiddink. “He will do very well for Everton. I worked for a long time with him so I know all about his qualities.”
“When he was a player I wanted to sign him. He was at Feyenoord and I was in Turkey managing Fenerbahce but it did not work out. After that I had a lot to do with him at PSV and we had a lot of contact worldwide. We worked together very well. He is a very good guy and I expect him to be very good for Everton,” he added.
