Some Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter in disappointment after hearing who’s been released from the Academy.

As tweeted by Alasdair Gold, Spurs have let Enock Asante, Chay Cooper, Keenan Ferguson, George Marsh, Rodel Richards, Jack Roles, Aaron Skinner, Kazaiah Sterling and Shilow Tracey leave the Under-23 set-up.

Eddie Carrington and Tarrelle Whittaker have also been released from the Under-18 side.

In terms of the first-team, Danny Role and Paulo Gazzaniga have left the club.

While there are a number of great prospects among those names, one has upset the Tottenham supporters more than most – Roles.

The 22-year-old seemed to be a huge prospect at Under-18 level, scoring 16 goals in 23 appearances for Tottenham in that age rank.

Roles also provided four assists in those outings.

The Cyprus Under-21 international also impressed at Under-23 level, scoring 12 goals in 33 appearances.

He’s struggled in senior football

His efforts earned him loan moves to Burton Albion and Stevenage this season, but he failed to score a single goal for either.

You can understand why Tottenham fans are sad. At Under-18 level, it did look like Roles would go on to be a first-team player in future.

Sadly, he just hasn’t kicked on, and has failed to take his opportunities while out on loan. At 22, he is also now at an age where Tottenham probably don’t think he’ll make it with them.

Nevertheless, it’s still sad to see him go.

Hopefully, he can find himself a new club, and get back to scoring goals.

Let’s take a look at what the Tottenham fans have been saying after hearing that Roles had left…
